Iowa State places seventh nationally

The women’s team placed seventh, outdoing last year’s eighth-place finish at the NCAA National Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ill., on Monday.

The team scored 290 points, just nine points away from a podium finish. Fifth-place finisher Oregon scored 281 points.

Junior Betsy Saina led the way placing ninth overall. Junior Meaghan Nelson and senior Dani Stack also earned All-American honors placing 17th and 30th.

The national title went to Georgetown, scoring 162 points, the best score to ever win the title. Second place was Washington with 170 points. It was the closest margin of victory since 1998.
