Missionaries host event at Ames Municipal Airport
June 26, 2011
Jungle Aviation and Radio Service will be hosting an event on Saturday and Sunday at the Ames Municipal Airport.
The organization provides technical support services intended to increase Bible literacy.
“We do a program called Missions at the Airport,” said Mike Mower, director of the event. “That’s what we’re doing here in Ames this weekend. It’s an educational program designed to introduce people to the work of JAARS, Wycliffe [Bible Translators], and the Bible translation task around the world.”
People who come will have the opportunity to ride in an actual missionary airplane with a missionary pilot. All must buy a ticket and fill out a form to ride in the plane.
There will be displays of the work the missionaries have done in many exotic areas of the world. There will also be missionaries talking about their experiences and what they have been working to accomplish.
“There will be missionaries for people to talk to so they can learn about all the different aspects of the Bible translation movement and how they can be involved,” Mower said.
Roger Krenzin has been with JAARS for 34 years. He has been flying for 32 years.
“Now I just share stories and speak in churches and schools — elementary through universities,” Krenzin said. “Bible translation is our real goal. It’s been exciting to be a part of that.”
On Sunday, the event will start at 1:30 p.m. and end at 6:00 p.m.
