Cyclone men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg picked up a commitment for his 2012 class on Sunday afternoon from Tilton, New Hampshire prospect Georges Niang.

Niang, a 6-foot-7-inch forward, is rated by various recruiting services such as Scout.com and Rivals.com as a three-star prospect.

Iowa State emerged from a pack of other programs offering Niang a scholarship that was made up of schools such as Iowa, Texas A&M, Alabama, Seton Hall, Miami (Fl.) and Providence.

Niang announced his decision via his Twitter account:

“MADE MY DECISION COMMITTED TO IOWA STATE THANK YOU TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOR HELPING ME THROUGH THIS PROCESS [sic],” Niang wrote.

Niang led the Tilton School in scoring this past season with 24 points per game and 8 rebounds per game, while shooting 63 percent from the field.

Scout Inc. had the following scouting report on Niang:

“Niang is a highly skilled four-man who can score both inside and out. He is a throwback low-post player with exceptional footwork and a wide arsenal of offensive moves featuring every pivot and counter move in the book as well as a soft touch over either shoulder. Niang is equally dangerous on the perimeter, as he has picture-perfect shooting mechanics and is a very dangerous catch-and-shoot threat all the way out to the three-point line.”
