No. 10 Iowa State swept Oklahoma 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-23) Saturday at Ames High School.

The Sooners (10-4, 2-1 Big 12), who are mostly known for their defense, started out slowly in the first set, giving the Cyclones’ seasoned offense a chance to take effect. With a win in the first set, the Cyclones (10-2, 3-1) snapped a three-match trend of dropping the first set to their opponent.

By the end of the second set, the Cyclones were staying neck-and-neck with the Sooners defensively, with Iowa State notching a total of 27 digs over Oklahoma’s 25. The Cyclones’ offense was also in high gear, and at the end of set two, they had 36 kills to the Sooners’ 23.

Oklahoma didn’t give the Cyclones any reason to worry until the third set, when the Sooners finally picked up on their defense. Some of the longer rallies led to some Cyclone offensive errors. Despite the Sooners picking up the pace, Iowa State still managed to win the third set, 25-23, to complete the sweep.

The Cyclones will next take on Texas in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
