In their last chance to gain momentum before conference play starts, the Cyclones came up short against South Dakota State Friday night losing 1-2.

The Jackrabbits lit the scoreboard in the 37th minute after a penalty kick got by Iowa State goalkeeper Maddie Jobe. By the end of the first half, the Cyclones were trailing by one, but had only allowed SDSU one shot on goal.

The Jackrabbits found the net again in the 55th minute bringing the score to 2-0 and leaving the Cyclones with a deep hole to dig out of.

The first shot by Iowa State since the goal was scored came in the 67th minute, and ISU sophomore Megan Long knocked the ball in on a header delivered from a corner kick by freshman Emily Goldstein.

The goal wouldn’t be enough as the game ended with SDSU surviving 2-1. Iowa State’s defense only allowed two shots on goal the entire game, but both slipped by Jobe. Jobe got the loss with zero saves in 90 minutes.

Iowa State will return home on Sunday to begin conference play against Kansas at 1 p.m.
