Ames resident injured in hit and run accident
August 9, 2010
An Ames man was injured in a hit and run accident at approximately 2:55 a.m. Aug. 7.
Tyler Wayne Anderson, 22, suffered serious injuries to his arm and head. Anderson was immediately taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center, but after concerns regarding his head injury, was transported to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
“He doesn’t have any broken bones, but his brain was bleeding and he has stitches, he’s all scraped up and has a black eye,” said Andrea Fier, Anderson’s girlfriend and former ISU student.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Grand Avenue and 20th Street. Anderson was on a bicycle and was hit by a pickup truck.
Fier said Ames Police have video of Anderson riding his bike between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. There is another car coming, but police do not know if that is the car that hit Anderson. The officer passed Anderson, and another officer came by on an unrelated call and found Anderson on the side of the road.
“He was out of the ICU [Aug. 8] around 3 p.m.,” Fier said. “He knows who he is, he can talk and he can walk, but not for very long because his head hurts so bad.”
Police are looking for a white or light colored GM/Chevy pickup missing the passenger side outside rear-view mirror and housing frame. It is believed the suspect vehicle year is between 1994 and 2004, according to a news release.
“He’s very lucky it wasn’t worse,” Fier said. “We want to find whoever did it.”
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Ames Police Department at 515-239-5133.
