Updated: Local waterways to surpass flood level

Skunk River and Squaw Creek are predicted to crest above flood levels today.
“Ames residents should be vigilant and monitor their homes, businesses and property as these situations can change very quickly,” said John Dunn, Water and Pollution Control director, in a news release.

Skunk River at Highway 30:
By 6 p.m., there will be a 22.5-foot crest at the Highway 30 river gauge, which is three feet above flood stage.
Residential areas to be impacted: lower portions of the Meadow Lane Mobile Home Park off southeast 16th Street and the Shady Grove Mobile Home Park off South Dayton Avenue.
Skunk River at Riverside:
By 9 p.m., there will be a 11-foot crest, where water will flood into North and South River Valley Parks.
Squaw Creek at Lincoln Way:
Near 10.5-foot crest by 3 p.m.
The field behind the Boys and Girls Club of Story County, Veenker Memorial Golf Course and Brookside Park will take on flood water.
