July 12, 2010
Ames police said a woman, who may have been trying to beat a train through a crossing, was killed Saturday night.
Fannie Delore Williams, 50, was struck 9:30 p.m. Saturday by the westbound Union Pacific train.
Williams was on the east side of Duff Avenue south of the railroad tracks; she attempted to cross the tracks as the train was coming through.
All the signals and alarms warning of a train approaching had been functioning at the time of the incident, police said.
Ames police and Ames fire responded to the scene, but Williams was dead upon arrival.
