Charges have been filed against Michael Calderon-Cody in the Raven Gileau investigation accusing him of providing alcohol to a person under the legal age, a simple misdemeanor.

Ames Police Commander Mike Brennan said police were told during their investigation that Calderin-Cody, 19, a sophomore in physics, brought alcohol to Gileau’s apartment and made it available to 19-year-old and her roommates, despite the fact that he was underage.

Calderon-Cody told investigators he bought the alcohol from another individual who police have not yet been able to locate, Brennan said.

Brennan said investigators believe Calderon-Cody was able to buy alcohol at Project 20/20 and may have shared some of those drinks with Gileau. Police are still investigating how someone who was underage was able to buy alcohol.

Police believe Calderon-Cody was the last person to see Gileau alive after they left Project 20/20 to walk to her home, Brennan said. Calderon-Cody told police he left her under the 13th Street train bridge when she said she couldn’t walk farther, Brennan said.

When Calderon-Cody returned, Gileau was gone. She was found later on the train tracks. Officials believe she was struck by an oncoming train. All evidence suggests Gileau’s death was accidental, according to police statements.

Gileau’s blood alcohol was 0.16 when she died, which is twice the legal limit.

Brennan said no criminal or civil charges have been filed against Project 20/20.

Project 20/20 representatives and Calderon-Cody could not be reached for comment.
