Child porn found with sex offender
July 8, 2010
A man who went to the Story County Sheriff’s Office to register as a sex offender was found to be carrying child pornography.
Michael Dean Woods, 42, homeless, went to the sheriff’s office July 2 to legally register himself as a sex offender living in the area.
During a routine check that is part of the registration process, officials found Woods had an outstanding warrant from Kansas for failure to register as a sex offender.
Woods was arrested and taken to booking. While officials were processing him, they found child pornography in the form of pictures that appeared to be cut out of publications.
Woods was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and is being held at the Story County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
Story County is working with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to determine if Woods will be charged federally for the incident.
