Shane Lucas —

ISU volleyball coach Christy Johnson-Lynch will get an opportunity to coach alongside other top volleyball coaches this summer.

Johnson-Lynch was named to the U.S. Girls’ Select A1 National Teams staff, the athletic department announced Tuesday.

The announcement is the latest in a series of accolades for Johnson-Lynch this offseason, including being named Asics/Volleyball Magazine 2009 Coach of the Year.

“This will be my first experience as a coach with USA volleyball and I’m really excited about the opportunity,” Johnson-Lynch said in a news release.

“I felt it was important for my development as a coach to get involved with USA volleyball and to learn from these coaches.”

The other coaches in the program will be Anne Kordes of Saint Louis, who has engineered a turnaround similar to Johnson-Lynch’s, Kyle Kvasnicka of Concordia University Irvine, Arizona associate coach Steve Walker, UC Irvine assistant Ben Bodipo-Memba and 2000 Olympian Charlene Johnson-Tagaloa.

Made up of teams that feature athletes born between 1996-99.

The program will compete in the 2010 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in Wisconsin Dells, Wisc., on July 26-30.

The Cyclones will finish up their spring practice schedule on Saturday with the Northern Iowa Spring Tournament in Cedar Falls.

Opponents in the tournament will be UNI, North Dakota State, Wisconsin, Missouri and Iowa.
