Iowa Rep. Kerry Burt arrested for OWI

ANKENY — State Rep. Kerry Burt, a Democrat from Waterloo, has been arrested for drunken driving in Ankeny.

Lt. Joe Simon of the Polk County sheriff’s office says Burt was arrested shortly before 3 a.m. on Wednesday. He was booked in the jail, and later released.

In a statement on Thursday, Burt apologized and says he will “comply with the terms of the court.”

Burt was elected in November to his first term in the Iowa House.

According to his campaign Web site, Burt is a Waterloo firefighter and owns a financial business.
