DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) _ State officials have certified the results of the 2008 General Election, including a record turnout of voters.

Iowa Secretary of State Michael Mauro says the State Canvassing Board convened on Monday to certify the results.

He says a record 1.54 million voters turned out on Election Day — nearly 25,000 more than during the last General Election four years ago. A record 557,000 voted early by absentee ballot.

Mauro says Iowans should be proud of the state’s voting process and the fact they made this a historic election.

He notes there are some races that have not been finalized yet at the county level but will be certified next Monday.
