Man arrested in connection with stabbing

Mateo Tellez-Yanes, 21, of Ames, was arrested and charged with attempted murder early Monday morning in connection to the stabbing of Darryl Crausby, 21, which occurred near the 3800 block on West Lincoln Way.

Ames Police Cmdr. Jim Robinson said Crausby was stabbed numerous times in the upper torso and was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center, where he continues to be treated in the intensive care unit.

Tellez-Yanes and his cousin Miguel Tellez, 24, are both being held at the Story County Jail at this time. Tellez is being held as a material witness.

Tellez-Yanes has been charged with attempted murder, a Class B felony and going armed with intent, a Class D felony.

Both men were taken into custody after the Huxley Police Department pulled over the pair on Interstate 35 early Monday morning.

Robinson said the police investigation continues and the department has found two other possible witnesses who are being contacted. No other new information has been found.
