Mateo Tellez-Yanez, 21, of Ames, and his cousin Miguel Tellez, 24, have both been charged with the stabbing of Darreyl Crausby, 21.

On June 11, Crausby was attacked and stabbed numerous times near the 3800 block on West Lincoln Way around midnight. Tellez-Yanez and Tellez were taken into custody by Huxley Police later that day.

Initially, Tellez was being held as a material witness in the case. Cmdr. Jim Robinson of the Ames Police Department said further investigation by the Story County Attorney’s office helped conclude that Tellez had, allegedly, assisted with the stabbing.

Tellez was originally being held on a $75,000 bail, which has now been increased to a $500,000, cash-only bail. This amount was increased as new charges were filed.

Tellez-Yanez is still being held at a $500,000, cash-only bail, which is the same as his initial bail.

The two were charged at their initial court-date on June 20. Stephen Holmes, Story County attorney, said the two are both facing charges of attempted murder, a Class B felony, and also willful injury, a Class C felony.

Because Tellez is only alleged to have been aiding and abetting, Tellez-Yanez is charged with going armed with intent, which is a Class D felony.
