Cyclone basketball standout Mike Taylor has had another run-in with the law after being cited for fifth-degree theft Saturday.

According to Ames Police, Taylor is accused of stealing a box of cold medicine from Cub Foods, 3121 Grand Ave. After being stopped by Cub Foods security, Taylor was cited for fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor.

There is a court date set at 8:30 a.m. Friday for the infraction.

Taylor was arrested on March 19 for a Feb. 4 incident at Frederiksen Court for fourth-degree criminal mischief – a serious misdemeanor – where ISU Police said he discharged a fire extinguisher, tore down an exit sign and removed a light cover, causing $200 in damage.

After the March arrest, coach Greg McDermott suspended Taylor indefinitely from the team.

This latest development could affect his potential reinstatement, according to a written statement by McDermott.

“I am in the process of collecting more information and the latest citation will be part of an exhaustive review of Mike’s personal conduct,” McDermott said. “I will consider the evidence that is available to me and determine a course of action that is suitable for Mike and our basketball team.”

Taylor, 21, is a Milwaukee native and led the Cyclones in scoring this past season at 16 points a game.

Taylor transferred into Iowa State from Chipola Junior College in Florida.

The Des Moines Register reported Tuesday that Taylor submitted a written plea of innocence for the criminal mischief charge, which has a court date of June 7.

Taylor could be fined between $250 and $1,500 if he is found guilty.
