Former ISU football player Jerry Gair Jr., arrested Sunday in connection with an armed robbery, has been charged in connection with another past armed robbery.

Gair, 21, a former defensive back, has been charged with first degree robbery, a class B felony, stemming from an early morning armed robbery Nov. 27 at Fuel Right convenience store, 4510 Mortensen Road, according to an Ames Police Department press release.

Ames Police Cmdr. Randy Kessel said Gair was connected to the robbery with a surveillance video and testimony from an employee who was on duty at the time.

“With that evidence, we have been working with the Story County Attorney’s Office and, in conjunction with them, have decided to file this charge,” Kessel said.

The charge is in addition to other charges of first degree robbery and carrying a concealed weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor, which Gair was charged with in connection with an early morning robbery at the Kwik Shop convenience store, 125 6th St., on Sunday.

Together, the charges carry a maximum sentence of up to 52 years in prison.

Gair was arrested following a 4 a.m. traffic stop, an hour after the Kwik Shop robbery, on Sunday. A loaded pistol, a ski mask and a bag of money were found in the vehicle he was driving.

No injuries were reported during either robbery.

Following a Jan. 24 arrest for burglary, Gair was dismissed from the football team for violations, according to past Daily staff reports. Gair was given a deferred judgment in October for the burglary, resulting in three years probation.

Gair is being held at the Story County Justice Center in Nevada on a $139,000 bond, according to jail personnel.
