DVD RELEASE: “Family Guy presents ‘Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story'”
October 3, 2005
Rated: 1.5 reels out of 5 reels
Featurettes: The only thing to be found resembling a featurette is the “Animatic Comparison,” a feature where you can watch the original sketches by the creators alongside their coinciding scenes. After about five minutes, however, the final product seems to be about the only thing worth watching.
Commentary: This is one of the few gems of the section. With the commentary on, you are able to listen in on the genius of creator Seth MacFarlane, two of his executive producers and the film’s director. Entertaining yet insightful, the commentary is a good addition to the feature. At first, it seems misleading when the DVD case boasts a commentary with cast members other than MacFarlane himself; however, other cast members periodically float in – including Alex Borstein and Seth Green.
Deleted Scenes: It would be too good to be true to find scenes too brutal even to include in the DVD – and it is.
Other: Hidden away in the dark corners of the “Language Selections” option, there is an option to watch the film with the “Uncensored Audio Track” where the cast members go into uncharted territory and say some of the seven words you can’t say on television. It is truly a spicy addition to the already edgy humor of “Family Guy.”
The Bottom Line: Other than different audio options with a guy who sounds like Ray Romano, there is little to no special features on this DVD, which could’ve been a great opportunity to see even further into the labyrinth of shadows that is MacFarlane’s mind.
