Iowa State’s men’s basketball team has endured a lean stretch on the basketball court of late, going 2-6 over the last eight games. 

But off the court, Cyclones coach Steve Prohm was a winner Tuesday. Prohm was announced by Infiniti as the winner of the Timeout for the Win campaign. The campaign — created by Infiniti in collaboration with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the NCAA, ESPN and the American Cancer Society — was created to raise awareness for the Coaches vs. Cancer fund. 

Prohm won the most votes out of 48 different college basketball coaches, winning $360,000 to be donated in his name to the fund at the end of the regular season. West Virginia coach Bob Huggins finished second in the competition, and $150,000 will go to the charity in his name.

“I greatly appreciate Cyclone Nation for supporting me,” Prohm said. “I’m thrilled to be winner, but most importantly thrilled to have the Iowa State University name attached to help fight cancer.”
