Bar altercation ends in stabbing, arrest

The manager of an Ames bar was stabbed early Friday morning during an altercation between police and a man who had brandished a knife at the bar.
Stanley Bell Lockman, 23, of Ames, was apprehended at Sips, 124 Welch Ave., after an altercation with Ames Police and Sips employees, police said.
Sips’ manager was stabbed, and another employee was treated for a laceration. Both were treated at Mary Greeley Medical Center and released, police said.
Ames Police initially responded around 1:05 a.m. to a call from Mickey’s Irish Pub, 109 Welch Ave., concerning a man who had been threatening employees there with a knife. According to police reports, after arriving at Mickey’s Irish Pub, officers were told the man was walking into Sips.
Lockman is being charged with two counts of willful injury, Classes C and D felonies; one count of going armed with intent, a Class D felony; one count of interference with official acts, a Class D felony; two counts of assaults on peace officers, a Class D felony; assault, an aggravated misdemeanor; and fourth-degree criminal mischief, a serious misdemeanor.
A Class C felony is punishable, for non-habitual offenders, by up to 10 years in prison and fines up to $10,000.
Lockman, who has a previous record of assault convictions, is being held on $70,200 bond.
