Mosiman wins second term as auditor
November 3, 2004
Auditor Mary Mosiman, a Republican, was re-elected to serve another four-year term as Story County auditor on Tuesday with 24,218 votes, or 59 percent of those cast.
“I am truly honored to serve Story County for a second term, and I will do so to the best of my ability,” Mosiman said.
With 43 of Story County’s 44 precincts reporting, Mosiman’s challenger, Jim Hutter, received 16,601 votes, or 41 percent.
Mosiman said she would like to create a method that would measure how efficiently funds are being used for services year-to-year.
“If we are asked to cut the budget, we can measure which areas to cut instead of being a shot in the dark,” Mosiman said.
Overall, Mosiman said she would aim to improve financial aspects as well as election practices.
“My first priority is to complete the performance measurement for the budget process that starts in January,” Mosiman said. “My second priority is to complete election worker training as well as voter registration that is well in the works.”
Mosiman said she recognizes a demand in the community for satellite voting.
“My philosophy is that satellite voting had more cons than pros,” Mosiman said. “The demand for satellite voting is high in the community. I’m starting to see the benefits as I’ve been auditor from the community, especially the students. The communication needs to be performed better between the auditors office and all the voters.”
