ISU serves volleyball opener

The ISU volleyball team will open the home portion of the Big 12 Conference schedule when they take on Texas Tech on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m., in Hilton Coliseum.

Texas Tech is 5-4 overall and 0-0 in the Big 12.

Saturday’s match against Iowa State will be the Red Raiders Big 12 opener.

Iowa State will be offering the Family Pack and a number of other promotions during the game.

The Family Pack allows a family of four the opportunity to buy four tickets, four sodas and four popcorns for $25.

The athletic department will also be offering a two for one deal.

Anyone who has a ticket to the Iowa State/Troy State football game on Saturday night will get into the volleyball match for free.

The first 100 fans will also receive an ISU volleyball mouse pad.

The team will be signing autographs following the match.

The ISU volleyball team is 9-3 on the season after a 3-0 loss to Oklahoma in their first Big 12 match of the season.

Offensively, the Cyclones were led by Mandi Harms and Renae Pruess, who tallied 10 and six kills, respectively.

Oklahoma tallied 41 kills to Iowa State’s 30 and outdug the Cyclones 49-34.

Oklahoma’s offense controlled the match, finishing the night hitting .283 from the floor.

The Sooners committed just 16 hitting errors on 41 attacks, while registering 41 kills.

The Cyclones were held to a .000 clip from the floor, while collecting 30 kills.

Sophomore Brittany Dalager, who is leading the Cyclones this season in both categories, had two kills and 10 digs, while senior Sara Stribe had 21 assists.

Sophomore Christine Smeele had six kills and four digs for the Cyclones.

The Sooners improved to 3-6 overall and 1-0 in league play.

The loss snapped a six-match winning streak for the Cyclones.
