LETTER:Bolluyt has the skills for Iowa Senate
April 25, 2002
An important primary election is scheduled for June 4. That is the time Democrats will choose a candidate to oppose Barbara Finch in her bid for the Iowa Senate.
I believe it is imperative that Democrats nominate the person who can best defeat Barbara Finch. That person is Karen Bolluyt. The Democratic Party and all constituents in Senate District 23 will be best served by Karen Bolluyt.
The November election will be won only by attracting all Democrats, while appealing to independents and moderate Republicans. Karen Bolluyt has proven herself to be just that person. For the past several years she has chosen to support Democratic ideals and candidates in the privacy of the ballot box, while remaining publicly independent. This enabled her to more effectively represent Iowa State University as she dealt closely with those of all persuasions in the Iowa Legislature.
The skills she developed during those years as an ISU administrator, coupled with her basic nature of cooperation and consensus building, will be a recipe for success in the November election.
It is a pleasure to have Karen emerge into the public role of an active Democrat since her retirement from her sensitive university position. All of Story County would be proud to be represented by her in the Iowa Legislature.
