ResHelp Web site to answer residence hallstudents’ questions

Residence hall students soon will have somewhere to turn with all their residence questions because the Inter-Residence Hall Association is creating a new ResHelp Web site.

The Web site is a joint effort with the Department of Residence and Maintenance.

“The site will serve as an answer center for residents via the Web,” said IRHA President Paul Duncan. “The site will be one-stop shopping for every question imaginable from the residents.”

Nic Osterhaus, IRHA director of information technology, said the site would answer questions ranging from what happens when a resident assistant documents a resident to who to call if a light bulb is burned out in a room.

Duncan said the site will have a summary of the structural organization of student government and its positions, and it will include links to all student government pages, contact information, e-mail addresses and summaries of what student government representatives do.

The questions, which will appear on the Web site, are based on frequently asked questions from residents, and new questions will be added as they arise.

“Obviously we aren’t going to be able to think of every question a resident might have, so we need people to give us questions so we can find the answers and add them to our FAQ database,” Osterhaus said.

He said he expects feedback to questions and requests residents send in to the site to be dealt with within a day or two.

“This site will allow residents to perform a search on the question/answer database or they can view by topic,” Osterhaus said.

He said they are still working on the design of the site and compiling questions.

Osterhaus said he will be doing upkeep and maintaining the site, which should be up and running by Thanksgiving Break.

The ResHelp Web site and the residence parking system will be the main issues at the IRHA parliament meeting, which will take place at 7 p.m. today in the Knapp-Storms conference room.
