Wigginton, Horton-Tucker win Big 12 weekly awards

After a big win to keep their Big 12 regular-season title hopes alive and well, the No. 19 Cyclones swept the Big 12’s weekly awards on Monday.

The conference announced that sophomore guard Lindell Wigginton was named the Big 12’s Player of the Week, while freshman Talen Horton-Tucker was the Newcomer of the Week. Both players had big roles in Iowa State’s 78-64 win at Kansas State on Saturday, with Wigginton leading the team by scoring 23 points and hitting five 3-pointers. 

Horton-Tucker had 20 points of his own, hitting six 3-pointers and scoring 14 straight points late in the first half.

Iowa State is preparing for a home game Tuesday night with Baylor. Tip-off from Hilton is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN2, with former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy listed as part of the broadcast crew.
