A missing 14-year-old girl named Elaura was found by the Ames Police Department after being reported missing at 4:15 p.m. Monday.

She was last seen northwest of Iowa State’s campus at California Avenue and Maryland Street after accidentally getting off at the wrong bus stop, according to a tweet from the Ames Police Department. The police also reported Elaura has autism.

Elaura was found at 5:27 p.m. by Sergeant Joel Congdon.

“She was pretty darn resourceful and built a shelter,” Congdon said. “She did a really good job of making this little wood shelter out of sticks and we were able to find her when she crawled out to us.”

Congdon said Elaura was cold and frightened but is now safe at home.

“It’s a happy ending here,” Congdon said.
