Cyclones bounce back, take care of Oklahoma

Iowa State picked up a critical win Monday to stop the bleeding, ending a two-game losing streak and picking up its 20th win of the season.

The Cyclones knocked off Oklahoma 78-61, improving to 20-8 (9-6 Big 12) with three regular season games remaining.

Redshirt senior guard Marial Shayok bounced back after a season-low in points against Texas Christian over the weekend. He had a game-high 11 points (4-of-6 shooting) in the first half.

As a team, the Cyclones shot 15-of-29 from the floor (51.7 percent). After a rough start to the game, Iowa State shot 14-of-23 in the final 16 minutes of the half.

Iowa State led by one at halftime, 37-36.

The Cyclones came roaring out of the break, scoring five points in the first 56 seconds, forcing Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger to take a timeout.

Shayok stayed hot after halftime, scoring eight points in the first eight minutes out of the break. The Cyclones built up a 63-47 lead, thanks to a 13-0 run. Shayok finished the game with 21 points.

Iowa State held on for the finish, ending the losing streak and guaranteeing a .500 record or better in conference play with the win.
