A fire that broke out at about 1 a.m. on July 25 is under investigation by the Ames Police Department.

Police received a call of suspicious activity, and when they arrived at 2507 Ridgetop Circle, they found Shekhar Parulekar lying unconscious in the garage near the driveway while the house was on fire, said Sgt. Michael Johns, information officer for the Ames Police Department.

Parulekar was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center where he was listed in fair condition and then released. Johns said the fire is under investigation to determine if any criminal action took place.

“We’ll look into what the intent was and if there was any foul play involved in the setting of the fire,” Johns said.

Johns also said the investigation is especially sensitive because there was a sale pending on the property and the owner is yet to be determined.
