Iowa State started Big 12 play with two big wins, including one over perennial Big 12 champion Kansas on Saturday.

The Cyclones couldn’t keep the momentum going Tuesday as they fell at Baylor, 73-70. Iowa State is now 12-3 (2-1 Big 12) for the season.

The Cyclones fell behind by eight points at halftime, thanks to a strong final stretch by Baylor. The Bears hit their final 10 shots of the half.

Redshirt senior guard Marial Shayok kept up his high scoring for Iowa State. He finished with 19 points, maintaining his Big 12 lead in points per game.

Iowa State kept within striking distance in the second half, even taking a lead temporarily before Baylor went on a run to take its lead back.

Baylor took a 73-70 lead after hitting free throws in the final seconds, and a Nick Weiler-Babb 3-point attempt at the buzzer was off target.

Sophomore guard Lindell Wigginton finished with 11 points, as did redshirt junior forward Michael Jacobson.
