Web site allows students to send their loved ones an electronic kiss

Valentine’s Day can often make or break a relationship.

For college students, the price tag is often the deciding factor when considering whether to buy gifts.

Only once a year do people have the chance to redeem themselves in the eyes of the one they love, or the one they really like a lot.

But there is help for penny- pinching students during Valentine’s Day who don’t want to go further into debt.

Student Advantage has launched its third annual Valentine’s Day Web site, Qpid: Lovestock, Free Lovin’ for the ’90s.

Qpid Lovestock can be accessed on the Student Advantage Network at www.studentadvantage.com/qpid.

The site offers easy, imaginative and inexpensive ways to celebrate the holiday.

Some of the simplest examples are electronic kisses, multi-media greeting cards or other bits of humor collected from the Web.

Visitors to the site might win a trip to Paris for two, or an Intel CD-ROM for the computer junkie on their Valentine’s Day list.

Unique this year to the site are chat rooms, suggestions for planning the “perfect” night and advice from other students who have “been there, and done that!”

Qpid was originally started by Main Quad, a Web page company, but was sold earlier this year to Student Advantage.

Originally founded in Boston in 1992, Student Advantage was a company devoted to improving the life of the average college student.

“Student Advantage is the largest card-based discount and membership program for college students,” said Lynn Santopietro, Student Advantage’s on-line event and promotion manager.

Connections on the network include “The Main Quad,” a student interaction site; “U-Wire,” a site dedicated to campus news headlines; “Bridge-Path,” a job and internship search page and the Student Advantage discount page.

The collection of such leading student Web pages has made the Student Advantage Network “the largest and most comprehensive Web destination for the college market,” Santopietro said.

The Student Advantage discount card entitles the owner to discounts for more than 15,000 restaurants, retail and entertainment “hot-spots” at thousands of college campuses across the country.

So whether you are looking for an inexpensive way to say “Happy Valentine’s Day” or just looking to get a couple of dollars off the dinner check at your favorite restaurant, www.studentadvantage.com is the place to shop for Valentine’s Day.
