Veishea is months away, but students are needed now to get the annual celebration rolling.

Veishea 1996 General Co-Chairs Shellee Novotny and Mark Lee are looking for new students with creative ideas for this year’s executive board, which heads the festival’s committees.

Positions available include: ambassador coordinators, business manager, educational outreach coordinators, executive secretary, and co-chairs for entertainment, marketing, open house, operations, parade, public relations, Stars Over Veishea and tournaments.

Novotny said there are no requirements to apply, and students do not need previous experience.

“We really want to get the word out this year. We want to encourage people who haven’t been involved before because they bring new insight to Veishea,” she said.

Lee said they are trying to get a variety of students involved, such as minority members, students who live in residence halls and members of the greek system.

“Our main goal is to have an all-student celebration,” Lee said.

The committee plans to make Veishea a week-long celebration instead of a weekend event, he said.

There will be six informational meetings in the near future for those interested in finding out more about the executive positions. Times and locations will be announced later.

Interviews will be held from Sept. 17 to Sept. 21. After the executive board is selected, the theme for this year’s Veishea celebration will be chosen, Novotny said.

Applications can be picked up in the Veishea office, Room 40 of the Memorial Union, or at the Student Organizations and Activities Center, Room 64. Applications must be submitted by Friday, Sept. 15.
