Players to watch: Texas

Will McDonald sacks Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders in the Cyclones’ 24-21 win over the Cowboys on Oct. 23.

James Powell

Iowa State: Will McDonald IV, DE

This may seem like a fairly obvious pick, but Will McDonald is a player to watch for historical purposes this week, not just his usual ability to wreck games.

McDonald has 7.5 sacks on the season, good for a team lead and tied for seventh nationally.

More pertinent to this game, the junior is just a sack away from breaking Jaquan Bailey’s record for career sacks at Iowa State. Bailey sits at 25.5, and McDonald currently has 25 in his career.

Look for him to be pinning his ears back frequently in the pass-rush, particularly with the Longhorns’ deep air attack being a staple of their offense.

Texas: Bijan Robinson, RB

Another obvious pick, but you won’t be disappointed if you take my advice to watch him when Texas is on offense.

Robinson currently sits at 967 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on the season. He also averages 5.9 yards per carry and has the ability to break a long run whenever he touches the ball.

Just a sophomore, Robinson already has made a name for himself nationally. He had a game earlier this season against TCU where he rushed the ball a whopping 35 times for a very impressive 216 yards.

Considering his last game was his worst so far this season, having just 43 yards rushing and no touchdowns, look for him to be hungry early and often in this game.
