The takeaway from this past tournament in Iowa City was that the Iowa State tennis team was the best in the entire ITA central regional tournament. They in the single and doubles matches to secure those titles. And with Thasaporn Naklo tennis play and the doubles duo’s playing very well capturing themselves a title.

Thasaporn Naklo outstanding tournament performance

Naklo was the top-seeded in the tournament continued her run through the singles bracket to become the first Cyclone in program history to win an ITA event. Naklo was cruising in the signals matches throughout the tournament, defeating many great competitors. Tusla’s Ana Paula Naranjo Kobash in the Round of 64, Tiffany Lagarde of Kansas in the Round of 32, Maria Linares of Kansas State in the Round of 16, Romana Tarajova of Southeast Missouri State in the Quarterfinals, No. 68 Malkia Ngounoue of Kansas in the semifinals and No. 114 Karine-Marion Job of Kansas State in the championship match.

Naklo and Hsieh defeated Kansas State’s Dinara Alloyarova and Manami Ukita, 6-2, 6-3. As they got to the finals, as both cyclones teams faced each other, Kadleckova and Cabezas took control in the first doubles final with 7-5 wins, but Naklo and Hsieh bounced back into the match with a 6-4 in the second set win. In the 3 set, Kadrekova and Cabezas regained momentum for their 10-4 tiebreaker victory, making Cyclones the first pair to win the ITA Championship in school history.

Other Cyclones individual’s performance

Miska Kadleckova: Made it to the Round of 32 before losing to Marcelina Podlinska of Oklahoma, 6-0, 7-6 (4).

Sofia Cabezas: She did win the ITA doubles title, but in the signals, she only made it past the Round of 64 before losing to Tusla’s Lily Hutchings, 6-2, 7-5.

Christin Hsieh: she did well in doubles during the week. She was doing individual events as she defeated Baylor’s Nikki Perlwitz in the qualifying draw and then lost in the Round of 128 to Arkansas Morgan Cross, 2-6, 7-6, 7-5.

Chie Kezuka made it to the Round of 16 before losing to No. 26 Indiana Spink of Arkansas, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.
