An update to WinterFest has been made with the cancelation of An Evening With Jennette McCurdy.

From noon to midnight Friday, the Memorial Union will celebrate the holiday season with WinterFest. There will be winter-themed activities and events throughout the day.

Originally, actress and author Jennette McCurdy, best known for her role in “iCarly” and her book “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” was planned to have a moderated discussion starting at 8 p.m. This discussion, along with all of her in-person events for the rest of the year, was unfortunately canceled.

“There has been an update to this Friday’s WinterFest events! Our evening with Jennette McCurdy has been canceled. But worry not, the rest of the WinterFest fun will continue as planned! A complete list of activities can be found online,” said the Student Union Board  Monday via Instagram.

Art Mart Holiday Sale in the MU Gallery will be open from noon until 8 p.m. This sale has pieces from local artists and crafters. Pottery, jewelry and more will be available.

At 4 p.m., check-in for the Jingle Jog, a 4k, will begin on Central Campus. Registration for the race is $15 a person, which includes a t-shirt. The race time is 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Wendy Wintersteen, Iowa State University president, will host an open house in Beardshear Hall from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Music, food, drinks and ice cream from the ISU Creamery will be provided.

The Farm House Museum will be hosting Victorian yuletide themed activities and crafts at 5 p.m.

Starting at 5 p.m., there will be cookie decorating, photos with Santa, swing dancing lessons, karaoke, trivia and bingo.

A tree lighting ceremony on Central Campus, horse-drawn carriage rides and chili and cornbread will be available starting at 6 p.m.

To end the night, Ames Ice Arena will be open from 9 p.m. to midnight. The first 800 attendees will receive free admission and skate rentals.
