Iowa State gymnastics took on its second competition of a double-meet weekend and sought a first away victory against Texas Woman’s University and New Hampshire.

The Cyclones faced the Sooners Friday, ending in second place with a 195.825. They were able to keep a streak of improvements as they had several season-high scores along the meet.

Culminating their faceoff against the Pioneers and the Wildcats, Cyclone gymnastics came out on top with a 195.400.

Fighting for consistency

So far in the season, Iowa State is aiming to maintain consistency throughout lineups and allowing the work to speak for itself. Within this tri-meet, the Cyclones broke the ice with a consistent bar rotation. The highlights of the rotation were Loganne Basuel with a 9.800 and Laura Cooke with a 9.850.

Moving on to the beam rotation, there were some mishaps but the Cyclones were able to recover and continue having the overall lead. Josie Bergstrom clenched the lineup with a 9.800.

Grit

After the second rotation the Cyclones stepped into their strongest event and they delivered. Laura Cooke set the baseline with a 9.800, Kaia Parker stabilized the rotation with a 9.850 and Maddie Diab sealed the rotation with a 9.900. The Cyclones dominated this event with a team score of 48.975.

Finally, during the vault rotation the Cyclones were able to secure their victory with a 48.775. The leading contributors of this victory are Kaia Parker with a 9.800, Josie Bersgstrom and Emilie Hong both scoring 9.850.

What lies ahead

With this marking the middle of the season, the Cyclones get ready for their second home meet of the season on Feb. 12. This meet is a special occasion due to the return of Beauty and the Beast, a collaboration between the gymnastics and wrestling teams. This event has not been held since 2017 in Hilton Coliseum.

Iowa State gymnastics will come out to the competition floor to face Central Michigan at noon Feb. 12 in Hilton Coliseum. This event will also be streamed live on ESPN+.
