No injuries reported in an early morning armed robbery in west Ames.
The Ames Police Department responded to a call of an individual demanding money from a clerk at the Mortensen Road Kum & Go in Ames at 4:27 a.m. on Friday.
According to Ames Police, the suspect pointed a handgun at the Kum & Go clerk, demanded money, then left the store running northbound.
Ames Police Cmdr. Dan Walter said the clerk did not hand any money to the suspect, who was the only person identified with the alleged robbery.
“We don’t have anything at this time to indicate there was multiple people involved, but we’re still looking at a lot of different things to include a lot of the surveillance footage from the area,” Walter said.
Walter said officers are retracing steps and looking at where the suspect came from, and where he might have gone after the alleged robbery.
Walter said the department is currently looking at surveillance cameras and asked the people who have cameras in that area to check them and let the department know if the cameras recording anything that might lead to identifying the suspect and his whereabouts before or after the alleged robbery.
The clerk described the suspect as a black male, approximately 6-feet-tall and wearing a black coat, face covering, white shoes and a large cross necklace.
