Iowa State Student Engagement in partnership with LeaderShape will host Catalyst, a day-long event that aims to help prepare students for leadership opportunities, Saturday in room 3560 in the Memorial Union.
“Catalyst is a one-day leadership program designed to be a first step in the life-long process of learning, exploration, and action,” the Student Engagement website states.
The event, funded in part by the Iowa State Student Government, is free to students with lunch provided. All 60 spots are reserved, and registration is now closed.
“I think this is a great program,” said Kevin Merrill, assistant director for student organizations, leadership and service. “It excites me that a program like this can exist for our students here who want to make those changes in themselves or in their community but also aren’t necessarily thinking of themselves as a leader. It might give them a new way to conceptualize what leadership could be.”
The event will feature speaker Brent Turner from LeaderShape, as well as various activities designed to lead students through a learning experience.
“Brent was most recently the inaugural executive director of campus life at Northwestern University, where he led teams across three departments in facilitating transformative experiences with students to explore their potential, engage in community and contribute toward a more just and equitable world,” the Keeling Associates website states.
