The Cyclones head south Friday and Saturday to Miami to compete in the Hurricane Alumni Invitational.
The Cyclones will look to build off a successful meet at the Stanford Invitational that saw Iowa State’s Riley Beach winning the women’s 1,500-meter run and Ezekiel Rop winning the men’s 1,500-meter run and now being ranked second in the nation in that event. Janette Schraft also won the steeplechase and ran the fastest time in that event this season. In the field events, Cam Jones won the hammer throw, and Kevin Sakson placed first in the discus, along with other Cyclones who placed top-three and top-five in their events.
The Miami Alumni Invitational will be another tough challenge as the Cyclones will look to place at the top yet again. The host team Miami will be one of the Cyclones’ biggest competitors as the Hurricanes have been off to a fast start this season.
Florida State transfer Milton Ingraham II is coming off a meet where he placed his name in the record books with a discus throw of 60.99 meters, which put him second all-time in Hurricane history. The Cyclones will have their hands full in an event they usually dominate, but Jones and Sakson could be up for the challenge.
To go along with Ingraham, Gabriella Grissom also placed her name second in Hurricane history in the women’s 400-meter dash. Some other teams to keep an eye on this weekend will be St. John’s, a team that is coming off a 15-event win at its last meet, and Princeton, a team that won eight events to open its outdoor season at the Sam Howell Invitational.
The Hurricane Alumni Invitational will start Friday night in Miami.
