The Iowa State soccer team looks to maintain a winning streak as they take on No. 8 Memphis on Sunday.
The Cyclones are coming off their best game so far this season with a 6-1 win against Northern Iowa on Sunday. Iowa State head coach Matt Fannon won his 100th career game and ended the Cyclones’ losing streak against the Panthers.
Iowa State dominated possessiveness of the ball throughout the match and were communicative towards their teammates leading to a hard-earned victory. The Cyclones hope to test this newfound confidence in Sunday’s game against Memphis in order to end the Tigers’ 3-0 winning streak.
Memphis is also entering the match after a 2-1 win against Ole Miss. The Tigers started off pretty rocky in the first half after neither team scored. However, Ai Kitagawa and Maddie Eskin scored two goals in the second half, securing Memphis’ win and increasing their away game-winning streak to a nation-high eight games.
The Tigers have a large lineup of skilled offensive players, with a variety of players having multiple goals. Memphis is led by Ashley Henderson and Kitagawa, who have both individually scored six points so far this season.
Iowa State comes in evenly matched, being led by Magdalena Keck, who has scored seven points so far this season, and Morgan Furmaniak, scoring six.
The Tigers have tested the Cyclones’ skills tremendously in the past and have outscored Iowa State 11-1 in previous matches.
