How will you cheer on the Cyclones this weekend?
Iowa State will face the Arizona State Sun Devils in the Big 12 Championship football game at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Cyclones have a record of 10-2 for the first time in program history, so you will not want to miss this game.
For the fans who cannot commute to Arlington, Texas, I have compiled the top three student-approved spots to watch the game in Ames this weekend.
First on the list is BNC Field House. Iowa State students love the atmosphere in this bar and grill during football games.
“BNC is close to campus, so it is always filled with students to celebrate with,” Natalie Weber, a senior in advertising, said.
Check out BNC’s Instagram for more information on drink deals and opening time on game day.
The second spot that made the cut is Wallaby’s Bar and Grille. Students love the cyclone spirit in this restaurant and their food.
“Wallaby’s feels like a classic Cyclone restaurant, and their appetizers are amazing,” Isabelle Severs, a senior in kinesiology, said.
Wallaby’s proudly displays Iowa State decorations throughout the restaurant and has signature dishes. Their appetizer menu includes “Cyclone Wings” and their main menu includes an “Ames Philly Cheesesteak.”
Wallaby’s is located on Stange Road and opens at 11 a.m. Saturday.
The third spot goes to Brick City Grill. With a similar feel to Wallaby’s, students also love Brick City for their menu and the representation of fans.
“Their tenderloin and burgers are terrific,” Matthew Iehl, a junior in mechanical engineering, said. “They have great food and it’s always fun watching the game anywhere in Ames with fellow Cyclones around.”
Brick City has 14 burgers to choose from, including “The 2X4” burger and the “Mac Attack Burger.” Brick City is located on Stange Road and will open at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, which provides plenty of time to get a table before the game starts. Sadly, Saturday will be their last day of business, as they are closing for good.
Honorable mentions include:
- Mother’s Pub and Coffee, which opens at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday (earlier than normal for the game, according to management)
- Sweet Caroline’s, which opens at 11 a.m. Saturdays
- Tip Top Lounge, which opens at 7 a.m. Saturdays

It should be a fun game to watch! I doubt Iowa State can beat ASU, with Cam Skattebo dominating the run game. Still a great season!
