Ames Police have made an arrest after a man was fatally shot on the evening of Jan. 18 on South 5th Street.
The victim, identified on Jan. 21, was Parker L. Stoneburner, age 25. Officers arrived at the scene around 6:30 p.m. after reports of an emergency and found Stoneburner suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
An updated press release from Ames Police on Friday stated Destiny Skurdal, age 19, of Ames, Iowa, was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery degree, which is a class B felony.
According to the Iowa Code, a person commits robbery in the first degree when “the person purposely inflicts or attempts to inflict serious injury, or is armed with a dangerous weapon.”
A class B felony in Iowa is a serious crime that can lead to a prison sentence of up to 25 years. Some class B felonies also have a mandatory minimum sentence.
The press release states the investigation is still “active and ongoing.”

There is a mistake in this article, how can it be that the suspect shot the victim who died? I found something different at the Ames Tribune, this needs to be corrected.
