Iowa State Soccer: Offense struggles against Northwestern

After suffering a tough loss to Missouri, the Cyclones looked to bounce back against the 19th-ranked Northwestern Wildcats in the Boilermaker Challenge Cup in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Northwestern’s offense dominated the ball in the first half, taking eight shots while the Cyclones were held to one. Northwestern put four shots on goal and scored in the 42nd minute to take a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Going into the game, coach Minatta expected Northwestern to give them a battle. The Wildcats did just that.

The Cyclones offense struggled to get going in the first half, as they only put one shot on goal in the first half.

60 minutes into the games, the Wildcats had nine corner kicks while the Cyclones had zero.

Following a rough first half, the Cyclone offense had some better opportunities, but they were unable to capitalize.

Northwestern finished with an 11-3 advantage in shots taken, a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Northwestern held onto the lead and got the win over the Cyclones.

The Cyclones are 1-2-0 on the season.

The Cyclones will look to bounce back and get in the win column against the Purdue Boilermakers at 2 p.m. in West Lafayette, Indiana on Sunday.
