Coming off a two-week break since the indoor NCAA Division I Championship, the Iowa State men’s and women’s track and field teams are getting set for the Terry Long FSU Relays in Tallahassee, Florida, and the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State for the first outdoor meets of the season.
Junior sprinter Rachel Joseph and senior mid-distance runner Darius Kipyego earned First Team All-America honors in the indoor season. Joseph earned hers in the 400-meter dash, and Kipyego earned his in the 800-meter run.
They will look to bring these successes into the outdoor season, starting in Tallahassee. Joseph is set to run the women’s 100m and 200m.
In addition to Joseph and Kipyego, senior Thai Thompson looks to make the best of his multi-event talent, coming off a 10th-place finish nationally in the heptathlon during the indoor season. He’ll start this outdoor season running the 100-meter dash alongside the long jump and discus.
The women’s distance runners will take center stage in Raleigh, with freshman Becca Heitzig and sophomore McKinley Wheeler running the 1500m.
In the 5000-meter run, redshirt junior Riley Beach, redshirt junior Bella Heikes, sophomore Sydney Morrell and redshirt sophomore Mya Trober will take to the track. Senior Taylor Briggs will run the 10,000-meter run, while senior Kiki Connell and sophomore Sheridan Wheeler will run the 3000-meter steeplechase.
The Terry Long FSU Relays will take place Thursday and Friday, while the Raleigh Relays will also take place Friday.
