As Iowa State hit the Big 12 Championship, it was clear the team would not make regionals.
Following the conference championship, four Cyclones qualified to compete individually at the Utah Regional in Salt Lake City.
Those gymnasts are senior Josie Bergstrom-Te Slaa, sophomore Noelle Adams, freshman Haylee Hardin and freshman Frederique Sgarbossa.
Completing the quest to clinch a spot in regionals
This will be Bergstrom-Te Slaa’s third time competing individually in the postseason.
Bergstrom-Te Slaa claimed her spot by being a top 12 all-around gymnast on a non-qualifying team. This is also the first time she has competed all-around in the postseason.
The other three gymnasts claimed their spots at regionals by being in the top 16 of their respective events while also being on a non-qualifying team.
Adams will head to regionals for the second consecutive year. She will compete as an event specialist with her floor routine.
During Adams’ freshman campaign, she competed on vault in last season’s regional competition.
Hardin and Sgarbossa will both make their postseason debuts.
Just like Adams, Hardin will compete with her floor routine.
Sgarbossa will compete on uneven bars.
Schedule for regionals
Iowa State will compete in the first session of the regional competition.
The first rotation will display Bergstrom-Te Slaa on the uneven bars and Adams on the floor.
Moving to the second rotation, Sgarbossa will take on the uneven bars and Bergstrom-Te Slaa will move to the balance beam.
For the third rotation, Bergstrom-Te Slaa will be the lone Cyclone competing. She will perform her floor routine.
Rounding out the first round of regionals, Hardin will perform her floor routine and Bergstrom-Te Slaa will wrap up regionals with vault.
This competition is set to begin at 2 p.m. Thursday in Salt Lake City. The meet will be streamed live on ESPN+.
