With two players on their way out from the transfer portal and one player in, Iowa State landed another commitment. This time, it was Evangelia Paulk from Wofford.
Paulk averaged 12.8 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore for Wofford and was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
The 8.4 rebounds per game would have been the highest for Iowa State last season, but it adds to an already impressive tandem. Sophomores Audi Crooks and Addy Brown each averaged a little more than seven rebounds a game, so the Cyclones should have no problem crashing the glass next season.
Averaging 3.3 steals per game, Paulk earned her defensive honors. Her height and length have helped her develop a knack for loose balls. For comparison, Iowa State averaged 5.8 steals per game as an entire team, so the length will help on that side of the ball as well.
Adding Paulk through the transfer portal will likely be the final move that head coach Bill Fennelly and Iowa State make, but the players the Cyclones brought in look the part to be good replacements.
Taking a look at how the transfer portal impacted the Cyclones, two players who combined for 6.1 points per game found new homes, and the two that Iowa State brought in combined for 25.5 at their respective schools.
It’s hard to analyze just how much of an impact they will make as of now, but on paper, it looks like the Cyclones got better.
