Iowa State athletics have already begun for the fall of 2025, but there are plenty of big games and matches to mark on calendars.
Football
Vs. Iowa, 11 a.m. Sept. 6
Iowa State hosts Iowa for the CyHawk football matchup. The away team has won the matchup each of the last four seasons.
At Arizona, time TBD, Sept. 27
At Colorado, time TBD, Oct. 11
The Cyclones play on the road against both Arizona and Colorado, marking the first time the teams have played as conference opponents since realignment.
Vs. BYU, time TBD, Oct. 25
The Cyclones host BYU for the school’s Homecoming and Hall of Fame Weekend in late October.
Vs. Arizona State, time TBD, Nov. 1
A repeat of the Big 12 Championship Game from 2024, and the second time the two teams have matched up with each other.
Soccer
Vs. Memphis, 6 p.m. Aug. 31
First ranked matchup of the season for the Cyclones, and an opportunity for the team’s first home victory.
At Iowa, 7 p.m. Sept. 4
A game circled for most sports, a matchup that holds more weight knowing it counts towards the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series.
Vs. Texas Tech, 1 p.m. Sept. 28
After a good start to the season, Texas Tech has climbed to No. 18 in the rankings, another tough matchup for the Cyclones at home.
At TCU, 1 p.m. Oct. 5
Similar to Texas Tech, TCU has gotten off to a hot start and is No. 7 in the most recent rankings. One of the toughest road tests for the Cyclones this year.
Volleyball
Bobcat Invite, Aug. 29-31, Athens, Ohio
The Cyclones will take on Bucknell and Ohio in this early-season tournament. It will be important to see how the team opens the season.
Milwaukee Tournament, Sept. 5-6, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Iowa State will play three matches in this tournament, battling Central Michigan and Milwaukee on Friday and taking on South Alabama on Saturday.
Cyclone Invitational, Sept. 12-14, Ames, Iowa
The first home matches of the year have the Cyclones taking on Saint Louis and Omaha at home. The first opportunity for Cyclone students to see the team play in Hilton this season.
At Iowa, 6 p.m. Sept. 17
Once again, a matchup that holds more weight than just a number on the volleyball record, it goes on the Cy-Hawk Series record. The Cyclones dominated 3-1 in 2024.
Illinois Tournament, Sept. 19-20, Champaign, Illinois
The final non-conference matches of the season, Iowa State takes on Eastern Illinois and Illinois to round out the preseason tournaments.
Softball
Vs. DMACC, 4 p.m. Sept. 17
The first game of the fall season for softball. A fun matchup that puts two Iowa schools up against each other to get the first taste of Cyclone softball for the season.
Big 4 Classic, Sept. 26-28, multiple locations
The first game against Drake will be in Ames on Friday, and the games against UNI and Iowa will be in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Saturday.
Minnesota Tournament, Oct. 4, Minneapolis
Iowa State will travel north to play Minnesota and North Dakota State in a doubleheader to round out the fall season.
Cross Country
Cyclone Preview, Aug. 29, Ames, Iowa
The men start at 8:30 a.m., and the women will start at 9 a.m.
Gans Creek Classic, Sept. 26, Columbia, Missouri
Missouri plays host, with the men starting at 9:45 a.m. and the women starting at 10:30 a.m.
Nuttycombe Invitational, Oct. 17, Madison, Wisconsin
The Badgers will host, with the women starting at 10:30 a.m. and the men starting at 11:10 a.m.

Wolverine Invitational, Sept. 7-8, Ann Arbor, Michigan
