Cyclone men’s golf returns to the course at the Bearcat Invitational Sept. 15, hosted by the University of Cincinnati, at Coldstream Country Club in Ohio.
Iowa State will join the green with Augusta, BYU, UCF, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Florida Gulf Coast, Furman, Illinois State, Kansas, Kentucky, Little Rock, Louisville, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, UNC Greensboro, Sam Houston State and Southern Mississippi.
The event, hosted by the University of Cincinnati Bearcats, will take place at Coldstream Country Club, which is located just southeast of Cincinnati.
Dick Wilson designed the course, which opened in 1959. The green has been recognised as one of the top 15 courses in the state of Ohio by Golf Digest and will be played for 7,111 yards. Just slightly shorter than the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm (7,346 yards), which was the host of last week’s tournament for the Cyclones.
Senior Paul Beauvy, who won last weekend, posted rounds of 69, 69, 67 in Minnesota. Beauvy found himself inside the top five on par 3, par 4 and par 5 scoring.
By showing strengths in every part of the course, Beauvy displayed the complete game it takes to compete at this level, earning the second win of his collegiate career.
Beauvy etched his name into the record books during the team’s trip to the Land of 10,000 Lakes, setting a new program mark with a career stroke average of 71.61.
Beauvy, who shows no sign of slowing down, looks to hopefully never give this record back to his former teammate Luke Gutschewski, who sits just eight hundredths of a stroke behind him.
Junior Owen Sawyer, who won the 123rd Iowa Amateur Men’s Golf Championship back in July, sits 10th on that list at 72.90 strokes per round.
Fellow senior Zach May also had a good week. Tying for 12th at the Gopher Invitational, May has been in the top 15 three times in his last five tournaments. He also shot a 67 at Windsong Farm last week, tying the second-best round of his career.
Iowa State head coach Andrew Tank will bring along his roster of Beauvy, freshman Julian Geerebaert, May, junior Jackson McCommon, Sawyer and junior Dianchao Wu to Cincinnati.
The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. Monday with a shotgun start for 36 holes and will continue Tuesday with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
