The Iowa State Cyclones faced a tough weekend at the 2025 Bearcat Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio.
After the first round, the team found themselves +14 over par, a score that reflected both the difficulty of the course and some early inconsistencies in performance.
Individually, the Cyclones struggled to find rhythm, with players like freshman Julian Geerebaert and junior Dianchao Wu posting rounds of 81 and 75, respectively.
At the same time, senior Paul Beauvy and junior Jackson McCommon tried to keep the team competitive with scores in the low 70s.
Round two offered little relief as the team again struggled to find consistency, posting a +12.
Mistakes made by several players hovered around the middle of the pack. Beauvy showed composure with a strong 71, while McCommon added a 73, helping the team maintain its standing.
By the final round, Iowa State turned things around, firing a collective -5, the team’s best performance of the tournament. Junior Owen Sawyer led the way with a 68, demonstrating poise and precision under pressure.
Beauvy and McCommon both contributed solid rounds, while Geerebaert and senior Zach May found ways to rebound from the earlier rounds.
The Cyclones’ ability to regroup after two tough rounds was evident in the team’s overall +21 for the tournament, earning them a 16th-place finish out of the 18 teams.
The Cincinnati Bearcats won the tournament with a team score of 18 shots under par.
Furman player, Harris Barth, won the meet with nine shots under par through the three rounds.
Iowa State will head to the Git-R-Done Invitational in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Sept. 22 for a two-day meet.
