Iowa State finished the Schooner Fall Classic, located in Norman, Oklahoma, in fourth place with a final stroke score of 834. This is the highest finish the Cyclones have accomplished at this tournament.
Due to weather concerns, the teams played 36 holes Saturday and finished the remaining 18 Sunday.
The Cyclones’ best round was their second on Saturday. They shot 270 (-10), landing in second place, seven strokes behind first-place Oklahoma State before the third and final round.
The third round wasn’t as pretty as the Cyclones shot 283 (+3), ultimately giving away their second-place standing, dropping them to fourth.
The highest placing Cyclone was senior Pammy Chookaew, who shot two under in her final round to put her at a total of six under, with four birdies on her last day, placing her in a tie for fifth. Chookaew has now finished in the top five in the first two tournaments of her senior season.
Sophomore Nichakorn Pinprayoon was the next placer for the Cyclones, tying for 13th, who had a three-day total of two under, with three great birdies on her final day. Sophomore Isabella Yan shot even in her final round Sunday, finishing with a two-over score, tying her in 30th place.
Senior Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn had a three-day total of plus four, giving her a tie for 37th place. Chul-Ak-Sorn put on a show on her final day, with a pair of birdies. With her season debut, sophomore Alexandra Vidal rounded out the Cyclones, placing a tie for 61st, with a three-day total of eight over, with four birdies on her final round.
Chookaew led the team to victory as she shot six under on the team leaderboard. Pinprayoon also helped seal the fourth-place finish, shooting two under throughout the tournament. This gave the Cyclones the ability to place ahead of three Big 12 opponents.
Iowa State is showing major success this season with its third-place Wolverine Invitational win, now adding onto that by placing the highest at the Schooner Fall Classic in program history.
Oklahoma State was the first-place finisher, shooting 18-under after three rounds and winning by seven strokes. The Cyclones will next travel to Chicago, Illinois, to take on the Windy City Classic on Sept. 29 to 30, hosted by Northwestern, featuring Big 12 opponents.
