The Iowa State Cyclones head to Golf, Illinois, to compete in the Windy City Classic Monday and Tuesday.
After coming off a fourth-place win at the Schooner Fall Classic, the Cyclones are looking to continue their successful season at their third tournament.
The Cyclones have attended the Windy City Classic for five consecutive years, placing in the top 15 every year they have participated.
Last year, Iowa State totalled 42 over par, placing the team in 11th place. The Cyclones hope to increase their success and place in Illinois this weekend.
Junior Keeley Marx was the highest placing Cyclone at last year’s tournament, tying for 22nd after shooting three straight over rounds. Sophomore Nichakorn Pinprayoon placed second in Iowa State’s lineup, tying for 29th, just one final stroke behind Marx.
Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn shot 12 over, placing her in a tie for 40th. Sophomore Alexandra Vidal tied for 70th.
Senior Pammy Chookaew is having major success so far this season and is looking to continue her two-tournament top-five-placing streak this weekend.
At the Schooner Fall Classic, Chookaew tied for fifth, totaling four birdies that tournament, and helped lead her team to a fourth-place win. Last season at the Windy City Classic, Chookaew tied for 35th, shooting 11 over, and is looking for a better outcome this year.
The Windy City Classic is played annually at the Glen View Club, a historic club that has hosted various prestigious tournaments. The Glen View Club is located just 15 miles outside of Chicago, in the historic Village of Golf.
Established in 1897, Glen View is one of the oldest clubs in the Chicago area and has one of the country’s earliest 18-hole golf courses. Glen View’s rich history is prominently displayed in its beautiful buildings and grounds. A century-old, grand Scottish clubhouse commands dramatic views of the William Flynn-designed golf course, laid out over hills gently sloping toward a picturesque river.
Glen View Club has been the proud host to the US Amateur (1902), the US Open (1904), five Western Opens and, more recently, three National Platform Tennis Championships.
This week’s lineup includes Chookaew, Chul-Ak-Sorn, Marx, Pinprayoon, Vidal and sophomore Isabella Yan.
This event consistently attracts one of the deepest fields in collegiate golf; this year’s field is set to feature eight teams that qualified for the NCAA Championship Finals last season.
Iowa State will play along one Big 12 opponent, Arizona State, which won the Windy City Classic last year, and No. 1 Stanford.
